As the fun and excitement of Halloween winds down, the spirit of the holidays moves forward as Thanksgiving easily picks up the slack. In stark contrast to Halloween, where we pretend to be someone we are not, Thanksgiving gives us the opportunity to think about who we are and who or what we are grateful for in our lives. This gratuity can be about a variety of things, but in the spirit of Thanksgiving the VN polled a few students on campus to see what they might be thankful for on campus.
Senior Mark Formosa
“Detroit Mercy provided me with the opportunities to grow in my academic, spiritual and social life. People argue they can do that anywhere, but what makes UDM special is that students here understand life surpasses far more than our time spent here.”
Senior Xavier Chavis
“I am thankful for the opportunity to be in a place where we can meet many distinct types of people. This allows me to be open minded in my life and my work, which allows me to explore more options in my career.”
Graduate student Preston Duller
“The tight community that Detroit Mercy builds is a highlight to the school that I and many others who attend the university are thankful for. The environment that was built due to Detroit Mercy’s smaller structure provides a specific experience that many students benefit from academically and socially.”
Senior Natalie Kenny
“I am thankful for what the [dance] team that this university has brought me as well as the loving enviornment from my peers and faculty.”
Freshman Ricky Delacruz
“The hospitality from other students is great on campus and how close everything is to where I dorm is great and makes my day-to-day experience much better. I am thankful for that.”
Junior Liam Bien
“I am thankful our basketball team got a win this year. Even though the team we beat was not good it was still nice to see.”
Sophomore Cole Hostetler
“Super-thankful to pull that one out against Cleary, the schedule will only get tougher but for coach Monty to start with a win, that could be huge.”
Senior Lorenzo LaFata
“I am thankful to be able to graduate this year.”
