What started as a school project turned into a full team effort by Titan women’s lacrosse players.

Senior midfielder Claire Conway asked around the team looking for an idea for a special project to include in her graduation portfolio.

After multiple responses she and junior teammate Caitlin O’Brien came up with the idea to knit blankets to donate to an organization that would distribute them to individuals in need.

“Knitting is an activity we both enjoy doing, and it’s rewarding and humbling to know we can put our hobby to use in a way that gives back to the community,” O’Brien said.

The team created a GoFundMe page and shared the link on social media. They have reached their $400 goal but still welcome donations.

All money will buy supplies for the blankets, specifically yarn and needles.

The two decided initially it would be a good deed to donate the knitted blankets to the church they both attend, but instead ended up in contact with the volunteer coordinator at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

“Due to Covid there are heavy restrictions in regard to visitors,” O’Brien said. “Many of the patients have to go extended periods of time without seeing friends or family. We’re hoping this small act of kindness helps.”

Conway appreciates all the donations, as well as the support from her teammates.

“I appreciate all the help from my teammates,” she said. “My two teammates Elise (Harder) and Caitlin were both especially helpful and kind enough to contribute their time and efforts in assisting me with this project.”
